My name is Darren Shorter, and I'm the proprietor of Vantastic Campers.

When I was growing-up my Dad had a Split Screen camper van. We used it every day and every holiday. The VW bug had already bitten, and my love affair with vans had begun.

At school I excelled in art, sculpture, metal work and woodwork. I always made the best go-karts in town and built a hovercraft at the age of 14. When I left school I trained with a local company as an upholsterer for seven years working with soft furnishings and coach-built horse drawn carriages.

I then trained as a carpenter and joiner and have been working in the trade for over 20 years. I have designed and made bespoke tables, reception desks, and wardrobes, fitted-out horse transporters and even converted a 40ft articulated racing trailer complete with kitchen and dining area and removable catering units.

I now combine my design and technical skills with my passion for VW camper vans. The result: Vantastic!
